What Should I Read?

One of the most common questions I’m asked is: “What book should I start with?”

The story is almost always the same, they used to read, then stopped, and somewhere along the way, they lost the habit. The easy response would be to recommend popular titles like Atomic Habits, The Psychology of Money, or Meditations. But that wouldn’t be the most honest answer.

The best book to start with is the one you’re genuinely curious about. What’s that one topic that sparks your interest and refuses to let go? Begin there. It could be anything, conspiracy theories, health, economics, finance, stock markets, even dating. When you follow your curiosity, you won’t abandon the book halfway. You’ll most likely finish it.

Curiosity is the engine of everything in life. You can’t force yourself to slog through a book you don’t care about. All the standard advice, read 10 pages a day, commit 15 minutes daily, only works if you actually want to read. When you’re genuinely curious, you’ll naturally carve out time to read a few pages. The same applies to fiction: don’t feel pressured to pick up the classics if they don’t excite you. Start with a story that captivates you.

The goal of reading isn’t to finish books, it’s to make reading second nature. The more you nurture your curiosity, the easier it becomes. Before long, you’ll find yourself curious about new ideas and unfamiliar subjects. That path will lead you to books and topics you never imagined exploring when you first began.

As Naval Ravikant said: “Read what you love until you love what you read.”
