The Age Of Talentless Celebrities
The rise of influencers after 2020 created a new social problem. A growing group now believes that the path to quick riches runs through social validation. They assume they will create content, people will consume that content, and brand endorsements will flood their inbox. They believe they can keep doing this forever by becoming celebrities. There are enough examples to reinforce that belief.
On the surface, there is nothing wrong with this. Social media is, after all, a great place to share your talents. But the keyword here is ātalent.ā Most people do not have any real talent to showcase, so they choose instead to showcase themselves. They begin by sharing their daily lives and gradually sprinkle in more self-display. Naturally, the algorithm prefers skin show because it attracts eyeballs. Even if someone dislikes the content, they are unlikely to object to the skin show. Itās free, itās real, and it naturally gains more attention.
Social media has therefore shifted from a platform for artists and the genuinely talented to a platform of mediocrity that attracts disproportionate attention. Do not blame the algorithm for showing you half-naked dancers; blame the platform that is flooded with such contentāand the audience that rewards it. This phenomenon has distorted the entire ecosystem. It corrupted the creator, which then corrupted the creation, which in turn corrupted the consumer.
There are ample opportunities in the world to make money. If you lack skill, you can always provide a service. If you possess talent or skill, you can use these platforms to distribute your work. Hire the best editors, scriptwriters, and social-media coaches to support your journey, but remember that the responsibility is to contribute to society, not corrupt it.
It is acceptable to be mediocre; it is not acceptable to be malicious. Writing an essay on a blog every day may be mediocrity, but it is not corruption. Corruption is anything that twists the mind of the consumer into doing something they should absolutely avoid. As a creator, one must strive not to contribute to the rot of society. As much as you can. For as long as you can.
