Look at Her Properly

When we are in love with someone, we observe everything about them. We notice every little thing. What bothers them. What makes them happy. What irks them. We try to learn them, one day, one moment at a time. We are so consumed by them that even our thoughts are filled with them. We replay the moments we spend together, interpreting what their actions might have meant.

Then we stop doing that. There comes a point when we have them, and we stop noticing them. We no longer pay attention to their mannerisms. We don’t stare at their lips while they speak, thinking about kissing them. We no longer look them in the eye as they talk. From being an absolutely attentive listener, we become someone who listens out of duty.

We also stop trying to interpret their gestures. And even when we do, we almost always misunderstand them. This is saturation. We have too much of someone, and our minds become saturated. There is no longer any novelty in them. And then we wonder where the spark has gone. You fucking killed that spark, my friend. You strangled the life out of it.

My dear reader, the next time you look at her, do it properly. Look at the contours of her face. Look into her eyes. Notice their colour. Notice which words she stumbles over. Notice how her eyes light up. Notice her lips once again. Kiss them like you have wanted to for years. When she tries to be strong and independent, think about what is scaring her so much.

Don’t tell her she’s beautiful. Describe something about her in such specific detail that she blushes. Because, my dear reader, if she doesn’t blush, you aren’t doing your job well. Earn that smile, even if you have seen it before. Because, after all, that is the ultimate spice of life. She is both the spice and the sweetness of your life. Do whatever you have to. Do whatever it takes.
