Impact of Short Form

Short-form content has become an epidemic. Reels and TikToks have taken over the world to the point where we can no longer sit through an entire movie. This has impacted the film industry in more ways than you might think, with theater and play attendance at an all-time low.

Everyone in show business is fighting for our attention, but they are failing because our brains are fried. We can spend an hour scrolling through Instagram Reels but cannot spend that same hour watching a movie without fidgeting.

With the advent of AI, we no longer strive for solitude. Because AI can produce whatever we want, why waste time creating it out of our thoughts? Without solitude, our generation will never produce thinkers. Another side effect is that we are all running out of patience and outraging over trivial things.

The only way to overcome this is to retrain your brain. Rewire your brain into the old ways of the world. Embrace technology but be aware of what it does to you.

Your brain is the most adaptable and resilient organ. If you keep your distance from short-form content, it will resist initially, but it will adapt. The withdrawal symptoms and dopamine cravings in the first few days will make you realize that consuming short-form content is so addictive.

Train yourself to do what you have always wanted to do. Learn a thing or two that your future self will thank you for.

As Eminem said, “You can do anything you set your mind to.”
