Give Yourself Something to Chase
One of the ways to make your life more interesting is to take up a challenge. Give yourself a goal that is achievable but challenging, and commit yourself to it. It should not be so far-fetched that you lose motivation, nor should it be so small that you accomplish it effortlessly.
A simple fitness goal that requires you to be disciplined for a few months is what most people pick because it falls into this exact sweet spot. It makes people believe that they can achieve the goal without losing motivation, while still being difficult enough to make them feel accomplished.
You need such goals in life to experience the feeling of accomplishment. This is more important than you think. Smaller accomplishments make you chase more of them. They fuel the momentum of pursuing bigger goals. Your mind becomes wired to deal with difficult situations and tasks. You gradually become comfortable with delayed gratification.
Not only that, as you begin to stack accomplishments, you also have a better story to tell people. When people start looking up to you because of how you have solved problems in your life, your self-esteem shoots up. This naturally makes you more disciplined. You start taking your life more seriously.
When you notice that someone is not happy in their life, look at how many challenges they have in front of them. Chances are they either have none, or they have so many that they feel incapable of overcoming them. In the latter case, they need to break those challenges down into smaller goals so they can experience a sense of accomplishment in their lives.
Challenges are the spice of life. They motivate you to look forward to what lies ahead. It’s one of the easiest and most legitimate ways to build your self-esteem and feel proud of yourself. Identify the areas that require improvement, map out daily, monthly, and quarterly goals, and then just stack up those accomplishments.
